Rocker Switch Types, Operation, and Features
A rocker switch is an electrical on/off device that operates by rocking from one side to the other. When pressed, one side rises while the other is depressed, opening or closing the electrical circuit. Rocker switches are available in multiple operating modes, including on/off, on/off/on, latching, and momentary. Illuminated versions are offered to improve visibility in low-light environments. For more demanding applications, sealed and waterproof rocker switches are available, including dust-resistant designs with IP67, IP68, and IP68S protection ratings.
Mounting and Electrical Options
Rocker switches are commonly mounted to panels or switch boxes using screws or snap-in clips. A wide range of shapes and sizes is available, including round and mini rocker switches. Mounting options support both panel and printed circuit board applications, including through-hole, right-angle, and surface-mount configurations. Electrical configurations include multiple pole and throw options such as SPST, SPDT, DPST, DPDT, 3PDT, and 4PDT. Terminal styles include feed-through, wire leads, solder terminals, screw terminals, quick-connect or blade terminals, surface-mount technology, and straight, side, or right-angle PC pins.
